Parking for two cars that does not read as a car park.
Permeable parking, a proper path to the door, and planting that carries the front of the house.
The brief
The whole front was block paving, edge to edge, and water ran off it into the road. Two cars had to fit. The owners wanted the house to look like a house again rather than a hard standing with a door in it.
What we built
- A permeable gravel-stabiliser parking bay for two cars, draining to a soakaway on site
- A York stone path from the gate to the front door, wide enough for two people
- Clipped box and yew either side of the door to give the entrance some weight
- A low stone wall and railing to the pavement, replacing the open kerb
- Evergreen structure with a long flowering season, chosen to take road dust
How long it took
- Survey and concept: 2 weeks
- Drawings and drainage calculations: 2 weeks
- On site: 4 weeks, June
- Planting: 3 days at the end of the build
